Afrobeats Legend D’banj Announces Tour With 2Baba and Timaya
Veteran Nigerian music star D’banj has revealed that he is planning a joint tour with fellow Afrobeats pioneers 2Baba and Timaya. The announcement came during a recent interview with Adesope Live in London, where D’banj reflected on the growth of Afrobeats and hinted at new collaborative projects.
D’banj: “It’s Time to Hit the Stage Again”
Speaking candidly, the Oliver Twist hitmaker shared how the idea for the tour came about during personal conversations with his peers.
“I was speaking with Timaya the other day and he was like, ‘Banger, it’s okay, you’ve entrepreneur enough. It’s time to come out.’ I said the same thing. I’m speaking to 2Face as well. 2Face was telling me – let’s go on a tour together,” D’banj said.
The trio, who helped lay the groundwork for Afrobeats’ mainstream appeal in the 2000s and 2010s, are now preparing to bring their decades of hits to fans around the world.
“We have myself, 2Face and Timaya. We have great bodies of work. Because of how our industry is, there is a big market for everyone. So, yes, we will be going on a tour,” he added.
A New Collaborative Single: ‘Feeling Good’ with 2Baba
In addition to the upcoming tour, D’banj also revealed that he will be releasing a new track with 2Baba titled ‘Feeling Good’.
“For those who have waited, I want to thank you guys. I think that would be the tag of the tour – just to thank,” he said, reflecting on the long journey of their careers. “Because looking back 20 years…”
Celebrating Afrobeats’ Global Evolution
D’banj took a moment to reflect on how far Afrobeats has come from a regional genre in West Africa to a dominant global sound.
“Now everybody is Afrobeats, everybody is African. But I remember when in this London it was not that great for you to say you are a Nigerian. We all wanted to be Jamaicans,” he recalled.
He highlighted the pivotal role of the African diaspora in championing the sound internationally, noting how Afrobeats is now an integral part of global pop culture.
“These days, there is no UK movie that I’ve seen and our music is not in. So a big kudos not just to the creatives but to the whole community [African diaspora],” D’banj added.
What to Expect From the Tour
While official dates and cities have not yet been announced, fans can expect a celebration of classic hits, energetic performances, and a nostalgic tribute to the early days of Afrobeats. The tour is expected to spotlight the enduring legacy of three of Nigeria’s most influential artists.
