Dawn Richard Reveals Shocking Details in Diddy Sex Trafficking Trial
Pop singer Dawn Richard gave disturbing testimony on Monday in the ongoing federal sex trafficking trial of hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, recounting a violent 2009 assault and threats that left her fearing for her life.
“We Could Go Missing,” Richard Tells Manhattan Jury
Richard, a former member of the girl group Danity Kane, testified before a Manhattan federal jury that Combs threatened her and her bandmates after they witnessed him beating his then-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, at his Los Angeles home.
“I was shocked but also scared,” she told the jury. “I believed we could die if we told anyone.”
She claimed Combs warned them not to speak out, stating they could “go missing” if they did.
Diddy Faces Life in Prison if Convicted
The case has gripped public attention due to Combs’ iconic status in the global music industry. The 55-year-old founder of Bad Boy Records, credited with launching the careers of stars like Mary J. Blige, The Notorious B.I.G., and Usher, is currently facing:
Racketeering conspiracy
Sex trafficking
Transportation to engage in prostitution
Combs, who has pleaded not guilty, has been detained in a Brooklyn jail since September 2024. If convicted, he could face 15 years to life in prison.
Cassie Ventura’s Four-Day Testimony: Abuse and “Freak Offs”
Last week, 38-year-old Cassie Ventura testified for four consecutive days, detailing:
Years of physical abuse
Being coerced into drug-fueled sex parties referred to as “Freak Offs”
An alleged rape in August 2018, after their relationship had ended
“I just remember crying and saying no,” Ventura stated emotionally.
Defense attorneys challenged her credibility by presenting text messages suggesting she had consensual sex with Combs the following month.
2009 Assault: Flowers, Threats, and Silence
Richard described a chilling 2009 incident in which Combs exploded in rage over late food delivery and violently assaulted Ventura in front of her and others. The following day, Richard claimed Combs summoned them to his studio:
Handed out flowers
Delivered a warning: their careers would suffer if they talked
Though Ventura did not testify about that specific incident, she has described multiple beatings during their 11-year relationship. Her 2023 civil lawsuit, which led to a $20 million settlement, is what sparked the current federal investigation.
Richard’s Lawsuit and Broader Allegations
Dawn Richard has also filed a civil suit against Combs, alleging:
Inhumane working conditions
Sexual assault
Witnessing repeated abuse of Ventura
The federal criminal trial is expected to last up to two months, with more key witnesses set to testify in the coming weeks.
