Talks ongoing to settle custody disagreement
Efforts are underway within the extended families of Afrobeats star Davido and his first child’s mother, Sophia Momodu, to reach an amicable resolution in their long‑running child custody disagreement over their daughter, Imade Adeleke (born 2015). The matter has been a subject of intense public attention since court proceedings began in 2024.
Davido withdraws recent court action
Davido recently announced he was withdrawing a custody motion from the Lagos State High Court. He clarified he did not seek sole custody but was pursuing a structured co‑parenting arrangement before stepping back, saying the case had taken an emotional turn during proceedings.
Family mediation highlighted by Dele Momodu
Dele Momodu, veteran Nigerian politician and publisher of Ovation Magazine, confirmed that discussions are ongoing between the families of Davido and Sophia Momodu to resolve the custody dispute. Responding to public calls for his intervention, Momodu, who is also Sophia Momodu’s uncle, shared on Instagram: “Nothing to worry about. Everything is going to be alright. We’re working behind the scenes. Please, keep everyone in your prayers.” The post came as he traveled to Liberia to console former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor over the death of her only child.
Background to the custody battle
The custody dispute initially escalated when Davido approached the court for joint custody and unrestricted access. Sophia’s legal team countered, and proceedings became public‑facing, with both sides articulating contrasting views on access, care, and the best interests of their daughter.
