Former Senate President David Mark has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending decades-long loyalty to the party he helped found.
Mark’s resignation was confirmed in a statement dated June 27, where he cited the deepening leadership crisis and irreconcilable differences within the PDP as key reasons for his departure.
“Recent events marked by deepening divisions and persistent leadership crisis have reduced the party to a shadow of its former self,” the former lawmaker wrote.
He described the current state of the PDP as one of public ridicule and said despite his efforts to rebuild the party, its internal challenges have become insurmountable.
Mark, who had vowed to be the “last man standing” in the PDP after its 2015 electoral loss, said he consulted widely with his family and allies before deciding to join a new political coalition.
