“Date four, five, six guys”: Pastor Ebuka Obi’s advice divides opinion online

ABUJA — Popular Nigerian cleric, Pastor Ebuka Obi, has sparked widespread debate online after urging single women not to limit themselves to one man who has not shown clear intention toward marriage.

The advice, delivered during a sermon, gained traction after a video clip was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by @honest30bgfan, where it quickly went viral and drew mixed reactions.

Advice on dating multiple suitors

In the clip, Obi encouraged women to prayerfully engage and observe several suitors — without sexual intimacy — until clarity is reached on who is truly committed.

“Date four, five, six guys. Just make sure you don’t sleep with any of them. You can be studying three at a time to know the one God will choose,” he said.

According to the cleric, there is nothing wrong with talking to more than one man when none has officially declared marriage intentions.

Engagement defines exclusivity, Obi says

Pastor Obi stressed that exclusivity should begin only at engagement, not during informal or unclear talking stages.

He questioned why many women remain committed to men who have not discussed marriage, introduced them to family members, or made concrete plans for the future.

“When God has selected the right one, that person will engage you,” he added.

Mixed reactions trail viral sermon

The message has continued to fuel conversations about dating, commitment, and expectations in modern relationships.

While some social media users criticised the advice, others defended it. “This doesn’t make any sense,” one commentator wrote. Another responded, “Pastor said the absolute truth.”

The clip remains widely shared, keeping the debate active across social platforms.
