Dangote Claims Drivers Earn Higher Than Many Graduates
President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has disclosed that truck drivers in his company earn four times Nigeria’s national minimum wage, making their salaries higher than those of many university graduates.
Dangote made the statement on Tuesday during an interview on Arise Television, where he addressed concerns about job losses and the company’s relationship with the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).

Dangote dismissed fears that his company’s truck operations would lead to unemployment, stressing that each truck employs about six people.
“The trucks we launched didn’t stop anyone from their work. We hear there will be a loss of jobs. Will our tankers be driven by robots? Every truck is about six people. So these trucks they are fighting over will create 24,000 jobs,” he said.

Salaries, Safety Incentives, and Housing Loans
According to Dangote, the company not only pays drivers three to four times the minimum wage, but also rewards loyalty and safety.
He explained that after five years of accident-free driving, a driver becomes eligible to apply for a house loan, a benefit rarely seen in the industry.
“Our drivers earn more than graduates. If you look at what they earn in a month, it’s almost four times the national minimum wage,” he added.
NUPENG Membership Should Be Voluntary
The billionaire industrialist also weighed in on union membership, insisting that joining NUPENG should remain voluntary, not compulsory.
