A Federal High Court sitting in Asaba, Delta State, has sentenced Agbanashi Young to six months imprisonment, with an option of a ₦500,000 fine, for spraying naira notes at a public event.
The conviction was delivered by Justice F. A. Olubanjo on Wednesday, March 19, 2026, following the defendant’s prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Young was arraigned on a one-count charge bordering on the abuse of the naira, an offence contrary to Section 21(3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.
According to the charge, the defendant sprayed and stepped on a total sum of ₦10,000 in N200 denomination during a cultural celebration known as “Afor Day,” held on November 10, 2023, in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State.
He pleaded guilty when the charge was read to him in court.
Following his plea, prosecution counsel, Francis Jirbo, urged the court to convict and sentence him accordingly, while the defence counsel appealed for leniency, noting that the defendant was remorseful.
Justice Olubanjo subsequently convicted and sentenced Young to six months in a correctional centre or a fine of ₦500,000.

The court also ordered the defendant to undertake in writing to be of good behaviour going forward.
