Christian leaders in Plateau State are organizing a large-scale protest, tagged the “2nd Peace Walk Against Continuous Killings,” in response to the recent wave of deadly attacks in the state.
The protest is scheduled for Monday, April 21, 2025 (Easter Monday) at 9:00 am, with participants expected to gather at the PRTV Roundabout Junction in Jos and proceed to the New Government House, Little Rayfield. The Church is urging all Christians to dress in black, red, or white—symbolizing mourning, a call to end the killings, and peaceful resistance.
Speaking on behalf of the organizers, Dr. Gideon ParaMallam, President of the Gideon and Funmi Peace Foundation, confirmed the protest and called on Christians to stand united in grief and peaceful defiance.
“Between March 27 and April 2, nearly 80 innocent lives were brutally cut short in Bokkos LGA alone. This does not include the recent killings in Bassa LGA and other parts of Nigeria,” he said. “We must not be silent. Their blood must not cry out unheard.”
On Monday morning, more than 30 villagers were reportedly killed in fresh attacks in Bassa communities, further heightening tension across the state. This follows a series of deadly assaults last week in Bokkos, where over 50 people were killed.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Plateau State Chapter, is leading the protest, calling on the Federal Government to act decisively and end what they described as “unprovoked and continuous attacks” in the region.
“The walk is a cry for justice and a demand for security and dignity for every Nigerian life. This is not just about Plateau. It’s about Nigeria,” Dr. ParaMallam emphasized.
The procession will culminate at the Governor’s Office, where a formal appeal will be made to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, through Plateau State Governor Barrister Caleb Mutfwang.
