Peter Obi’s Surprise Visit to Charly Boy
Veteran entertainer and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has shared a heartwarming story of how former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, surprised him with a courtesy visit and a gift.
In a post on his X handle, Charly Boy recounted that Obi called him around 1 am to inform him he would be visiting by 5 am. Despite the early schedule, he obliged.
What Was Inside the ‘Ghana Must Go’ Bag?
Charly Boy said that upon Obi’s arrival, he noticed a large ‘Ghana Must Go’ bag placed at the entrance of his living room. Initially puzzled about what could be inside, he later discovered the bag was filled with:
Three bottles of roasted groundnuts
Several alligator peppers
Kolanuts
Pawpaw, oranges, mangoes, bananas, and agara (local snack)
The singer explained that Obi personally handpicked the items.
“As I come downstairs to meet him, na so I see one big Ghana Must Go by the entrance… Inside the bag was roasted groundnuts, alligator pepper, kolanuts, pawpaw, oranges, mangos, bananas etc wey Obi pack by himself,” Charly Boy wrote in pidgin.
“I No Fit Give You Money, But…” – Obi
According to Charly Boy, the pair spent nearly two hours discussing Nigeria, politics, and family before Obi presented the gift.
When Charly Boy later called to thank him, Obi reportedly told him:
“Senior, I no fit give you money, but I fit give you this one, na my hand pick.”
Charly Boy said he could not contain his laughter upon discovering the unusual but thoughtful gesture, describing it as a show of “native intelligence.”

Charly Boy has been a staunch supporter of Peter Obi and an active member of the Obidient Movement, which strongly backed Obi during the 2023 presidential election. He was one of the entertainers who vigorously campaigned for the Labour Party candidate, often using his platform to rally support among Nigerian youths.
