Former President Muhammadu Buhari has relocated to his residence in Kaduna after spending nearly two years in Daura, Katsina State, where he had retired following his exit from office in May 2023.
The news was disclosed on X by Bashir Ahmad, one of Buhari’s former media aides. Ahmad noted that since completing his eight-year tenure, Buhari had opted for a quiet life in his hometown, staying away from active politics and focusing on private engagements.

Buhari’s move to Kaduna was marked by the presence of several high-profile figures, including:

Buhari’s Absence from Recent Events
Buhari’s return to Kaduna comes after he missed two high-profile events in the past week.
- His absence at the book launch of General Ibrahim Babangida’s autobiography was linked to lingering tensions over the 1985 coup that removed him from power.
- He also missed the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Wednesday. His spokesperson, Garba Shehu, explained that the invitation arrived too late for Buhari to make the trip from Daura to Abuja.
“President Buhari was supposed to attend the NEC meeting, but unfortunately, the invitation was sent on Monday and reached him on Tuesday. Even with a private jet, it was not possible to make the trip in time,” Shehu said.
Buhari’s Simple Retirement Lifestyle
Since leaving office, Buhari has maintained a modest lifestyle, revealing last month that he sustains himself by renting out one of his two houses in Kaduna.
His move to Kaduna signals a shift in his post-presidency routine, but whether he will engage in public affairs remains to be seen.
