The Nigerian Senate, on Wednesday, summoned top security intelligence chiefs to investigate allegations made by Perry Scott of the United States parliament regarding the alleged funding of terrorism in Nigeria by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).This decision followed an urgent national security motion raised under Order 41 by Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District. Ndume emphasized that the claims were too serious to be ignored, considering the widespread destruction caused by terrorist groups, particularly Boko Haram. He stressed that a thorough investigation would help clarify how these non-state actors have managed to sustain their activities over the years.The security intelligence heads summoned by the Senate include officials from the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), the Directorate of Intelligence Agency (DIA), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the National Security Adviser (NSA).Senate President Godswill Akpabio, in supporting the resolution, stated that sensitive security matters should not be discussed in public. He noted that a closed-door meeting with security chiefs would provide the Senate with a clearer understanding of the situation.
