Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has officially sworn in Vice Admiral Ibok-Étè Ibas (retd.) as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State following the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the State House in Abuja, attended by top government officials, including Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila and Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi.
This appointment follows Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers due to political instability and security threats, including the recent explosion on the Trans-Niger Pipeline.
Vice Admiral Ibas, a former Chief of Naval Staff, is expected to oversee governance and security in Rivers State until further notice.
However, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and opposition figures have criticized the move as unconstitutional, sparking legal and political debates.
