Suspected Boko Haram Bomber Strikes Borno Fish Market, Leaves 10 Dead
A suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber detonated an explosive device at a crowded fish market in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday night, killing at least 10 civilians and leaving seven others injured.
The blast occurred at the height of commercial activity in the popular evening market, a bustling hub that draws traders and residents from across the region.
Attacker Disguised as Civilian Before Explosion
According to security sources, the attacker infiltrated the market posing as a civilian, mingling with unsuspecting buyers and traders before triggering the explosive.
“The suicide bomber also died in the blast,” confirmed an official source identified as Makama.
Emergency response teams and Nigerian Army troops were swiftly deployed to the scene to secure the area and provide medical assistance. The injured victims were rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
Scene of Chaos and Panic as Smoke Fills the Air
Eyewitnesses described harrowing scenes immediately after the explosion. Victims lay motionless amid the debris, while survivors screamed for help and scrambled for safety in the smoke-filled market.
“It was horrific,” said one witness. “People were running everywhere. Some were bleeding, others crying over the bodies of their loved ones.”
Security Tightened in Konduga After Blast
The Nigerian military has since cordoned off the area to prevent further infiltration by suspected terrorists. Security operatives are combing nearby locations for possible accomplices or follow-up threats.
Friday’s bombing highlights the persistent threat of Boko Haram and other insurgent groups in northeastern Nigeria, particularly in Borno State, which has been an epicenter of terrorist activity for over a decade.
