PDP Factional Crisis Ends as Turaki Camp Collapses
The Tanimu Turaki-led leadership structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has collapsed into the Aaron Chukwuemeka-led faction, which is loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The announcement was made on Friday by Robinson Nname Ewor, factional chairman of the Turaki-led PDP, during Wike’s visit to Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of the state.
Ewor Formally Hands Over PDP Structure
Addressing party supporters and political leaders at the event, Ewor publicly declared the end of PDP factionalisation in Rivers State, stating that the party now operates under one unified leadership aligned with Wike.
He announced that the chairmanship and leadership of the Turaki-led faction had been formally handed over to Aaron Chukwuemeka, effectively dissolving the parallel structure.
“PDP Is No Longer Factionalized” — Ewor
Ewor said:
“Today, I’m handing over that Chairmanship, leadership of that faction to Aaron Chukwuemeka.
PDP is no longer factionalized in Rivers State. PDP is under one Chairman and under one leadership, under the FCT leader.”
Clash With Governor Fubara Deepens
The development comes barely 24 hours after Ewor accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of misleading PDP members in Rivers State.
During a media briefing in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Ewor alleged that the governor falsely claimed he had the political capacity to defeat Wike in the ongoing struggle for control of the party’s structure in the state.
Political Implications for Rivers PDP
The collapse of the Turaki-led structure into the Wike-aligned camp raises fresh questions about the political future of Governor Fubara and the strength of opposition blocs within the Rivers PDP.
Analysts say the move significantly consolidates Wike’s grip on the party’s grassroots structure, potentially reshaping political calculations ahead of future elections.
