Gospel Singer Ajayi Sentenced to Death by Hanging for Killing NYSC Member
A High Court in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has sentenced gospel musician Oluwatimileyin Ajayi to death by hanging for the gruesome murder of 24-year-old National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Salome Adaidu.
Justice Simon Aboki delivered the judgment on Thursday, declaring Ajayi guilty of culpable homicide under Section 221 of the Penal Code, which mandates the death penalty for such crimes.
“The evidence before the court clearly shows that the accused intentionally caused the death of the deceased. The law is clear on this, and the punishment is death. Therefore, the accused is hereby sentenced to death by hanging,” the judge ruled.
Murder Details and Shocking Confession
Ajayi was arrested in January after he was found in possession of Adaidu’s severed head. The victim, who was serving at Nicon Insurance in Abuja, had reportedly been missing before the horrifying discovery.
In a disturbing interview with Channels TV, Ajayi admitted to the killing and expressed no remorse.
“I killed her because we don’t have each other all the time… I saw chats with other guys on her phone. That was why I decided,” he confessed.
“I don’t have any regrets because life is reciprocal. If you must do something to someone, you have to be reciprocal with that person.”
His statement, laced with contradictions, suggested a warped sense of betrayal and entitlement.
Family Denies Relationship
Despite Ajayi’s claims of being in a romantic relationship with Adaidu, the victim’s elder sister, Esther Adaidu, has strongly refuted any such connection between them.
According to her, there was no known relationship between the deceased and Ajayi, adding another disturbing layer to the motive behind the murder.
