ASUU Elects Prof. Chris Piwuna as New President
Piwuna Succeeds Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has elected Professor Chris Piwuna as its new national president, marking a leadership transition from outgoing president, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke.
The decision was made during the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Monday. Prof. Piwuna, a consultant psychiatrist and academic at the University of Jos, has previously served as ASUU’s vice president and has been actively involved in the union’s affairs for years.
Focus on Reform and Unity
In his acceptance speech, Prof. Piwuna emphasized a commitment to continue advocating for improved funding of public universities, better welfare for academic staff, and the sanctity of university autonomy.
“Our struggle remains focused on strengthening Nigeria’s public universities to meet global standards,” Piwuna said, assuring members that dialogue and unity would remain central to his leadership.
