The FCT Police Command has arrested eight suspected members of a car theft syndicate, including a husband-wife duo, in connection with a series of stolen vehicles across Abuja and beyond.
In a statement on Monday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, revealed that operatives arrested Yusuf Yunusa after a report was filed on April 19th about a missing gold Toyota Corolla (Reg No. ABC 570 FJ) stolen from the Federal Secretariat.
Following Yunusa’s arrest, his wife, Blessing Yusuf, was apprehended on April 25th in Kwali Area Council. During interrogation, she reportedly confessed to purchasing Toyota master keys via Jumia, which her husband used to unlock and steal vehicles. She allegedly created distractions during the heists to facilitate the thefts.
“In another case on April 28th, a suspicious black Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC E-400 (Reg No. AAA 07 KA) was flagged by a buyer in Life Camp. Investigations revealed it had been stolen from Lekki, Lagos,” Adeh added.
Five suspects—Idris Suleiman, Isiyaku Habibu, Ganiyu Sadiq, Idowu Akintunde, and Bello Muyideen—were arrested and confessed to stealing the luxury vehicle from their employer.
In a separate incident, the Police tracked a missing Toyota Hilux Adventure and its driver, George Idung, to his hometown in Eket, Akwa Ibom. The driver, reported missing by his employer, Mr. Chinwenze Chinaza, had allegedly fled with the vehicle in a bid to sell it.
All suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, urged residents to install tracking devices, avoid isolated parking spaces, and verify ownership before purchasing vehicles. He also encouraged the public to report suspicious activities via 08032003913, 08028940883, or 08061581938.
