Missing Nigerian Woman Found Dead in Illinois
Authorities in Illinois have discovered the body of 42-year-old Nigerian woman, Olasinmibo Abosede, popularly known as Sinmi, after a large search effort that lasted over two weeks.
The remains were located on Thursday, August 14, around 1:55 p.m., in the Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve near the intersection of 83rd Street and Chandelle Drive, according to the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County and the Naperville Police Department.
Clothing Matches Last Known Appearance
Police confirmed that the clothing found on the deceased matched what Abosede was last seen wearing when she went missing on July 30.
She had reportedly left her home near Springbrook Golf Course for a walk and was last captured on surveillance footage at 9:20 a.m. in the 2100 block of Sudbury Street, wearing a black Adidas jacket, grey sweatpants, a black headscarf, and black Crocs.
Police Investigation and Autopsy
Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres stated:
“While we believe the individual to be Sinmi, the final confirmation will be made by the DuPage County Coroner’s Office.”
Authorities have said they do not suspect foul play, but an autopsy will be conducted by the coroner’s office to determine the exact cause of death. The case is being jointly handled by the Naperville Police and Forest Preserve District Police.
Search Efforts and Community Response
Abosede’s disappearance had triggered a massive search operation, with law enforcement, volunteers, and canine units combing through the forest preserve for days.
Forest Preserve District Police Chief David Pederson expressed condolences, saying:
“Our hearts go out to Sinmi’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
