The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the release of three female students of Joseph Sarwuam Tarka University Makurdi (JOSTUM), who were abducted on February 26.
According to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Sewuese Anene, the students were freed on March 3 at approximately 9:34 p.m. after spending five days in captivity. They are currently receiving medical attention at Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.
Anene explained that the police acted swiftly upon receiving reports of the abduction, deploying officers to investigate. The continuous efforts of law enforcement, including the IGP Intelligence Response Team from Abuja, led to the victims’ release.
Benue State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Steve Yabanet, commended all officers involved in the operation and assured that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the kidnappers.
