Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed Appoints Chinese National Li Zhensheng as Economic Adviser

Historic Appointment

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has made history by appointing a Chinese national, Mr. Li Zhensheng, as the state’s Economic Adviser. The announcement came on Thursday, August 14, 2025, during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Bauchi State Government and the China Global Promotion Cooperation Research Centre (CGPCRC).

Boosting Foreign Investment

Governor Mohammed said the move aims to transform Bauchi into a hub for international cooperation and investment. The partnership will target key sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, education, manufacturing, mining, oil and gas, and trade.

“This appointment is in line with the strong bilateral ties between Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu and China’s President Xi Jinping. We are opening a new chapter of economic diplomacy for Bauchi State,” Mohammed stated.

Strategic Partnership with China

As part of the agreement, Bauchi State will establish a Representative Office in China to facilitate investment inflow. Li Zhensheng, who chairs the CGPCRC, pledged to mobilize resources, technical expertise, and investor networks to drive infrastructure modernization, economic diversification, and improved livelihoods in Bauchi.

“This collaboration will ensure Bauchi becomes a gateway for Chinese investment into Nigeria, with sustainable development at its core,” Li said.

First of Its Kind in Nigeria

The appointment marks the first time a Nigerian state has engaged a Chinese national in such a high-level advisory position, signaling Bauchi’s commitment to innovative economic strategies.
