The Arewa Revival Project (ARP) has strongly condemned alleged plans for mass protests and disruptions following the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan by the Senate.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, ARP’s Project Coordinator, Hon. Muttaka Ibrahim, expressed concern over political actors allegedly instigating violence for their own interests. He criticized groups challenging the Senate’s decision, arguing that many do not fully understand the legislative process but hastily jump into the controversy.
Describing the threats as an attack on democracy and governance, Ibrahim also faulted a group that issued a 48-hour ultimatum demanding the Senate reverse Akpoti-Uduaghan’s six-month suspension.
“It is evident that some elements within our political system resort to sponsoring violence and unrest for personal gain. This must be unequivocally condemned, and those responsible should be held accountable,” he said.
He emphasized that protests and disruptions are not the solution, advocating instead for peaceful engagement, mutual respect, and adherence to legal frameworks. He maintained that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension followed due process and should be challenged through proper legal channels rather than emotional or partisan reactions.
Furthermore, he urged Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to respect Senate rules, refrain from inciting protests, and avoid making unsubstantiated claims.
In response to concerns about fairness and justice, Ibrahim called for constructive dialogue and legal resolutions rather than disruptive actions. He also urged the Senate to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the allegations raised by Akpoti-Uduaghan, ensuring justice without political interference.
“The truth must come to light without procedural manipulation or sensationalism. This will uphold democratic institutions while maintaining the dignity of all involved,” he stated.
The ARP also called on northern-based groups to remain impartial, law-abiding, and focused on serving the people rather than engaging in partisan politics.
