Ogun Police Arrest Driver in Anthony Joshua Accident
Ogun State Police have arrested the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the tragic road accident that left two of Anthony Joshua’s close friends dead and sent the former world boxing champion to hospital.
The crash happened around 11 am on Monday near Danco, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, after the vehicle collided with a stationary truck. The incident has continued to draw public attention as investigations unfold.
Driver Identified as Long-Time Member of Joshua’s Team
Police Sources Confirm Identity
Police sources identified the driver as Kayode Adeniyi, a 47-year-old Nigerian who has worked for years as part of Anthony Joshua’s logistics team during the boxer’s visits to Nigeria.
“Kayode Adeniyi, 47, is a long-time member of Joshua’s Nigerian logistics team,” a police source said, requesting anonymity due to lack of authorisation to speak publicly.
Family Source Speaks on Driver’s Condition
A source close to the family also confirmed that the driver is Nigerian and was in critical condition shortly after the crash.
“We learnt he was in a coma shortly after the incident. His logistics are always arranged whenever he is in the country,” the source said during a telephone interview.
Police Say Investigations Are Ongoing
Confirming the arrest, Ogun State Police spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi said the driver is currently in custody.
“The driver of the Lexus SUV in connection with the Anthony Joshua accident case is currently in custody. Investigations are ongoing,” he said in a message to journalists.
No further details were released by the police as of Thursday.

The Lexus SUV, with registration number KRD 850 HN, was involved in a collision with a stationary truck along the expressway.
The impact of the crash resulted in the deaths of two occupants of the vehicle.

Ayodele Kelvin Olu (36) – Nigerian/British citizen
Gami Sina (36) – British citizen
Both men were close friends of the former heavyweight boxing champion.

Doctors Say Boxer Is Clinically Stable
In a joint statement released on Wednesday, the Lagos and Ogun State governments confirmed that Anthony Joshua had been discharged from Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, after doctors declared him clinically fit.
The statement was signed by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, and Gbenga Omotosho, Lagos State Commissioner for Information.
Joshua Pays Final Respects to Late Friends
According to the statement, Anthony Joshua and his mother visited a funeral home in Lagos on Wednesday to pay their final respects to the deceased friends.

Their bodies were being prepared for repatriation later that evening.
Lagos and Ogun Governors React
Governors Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State described the accident as painful and deeply unfortunate, while extending condolences to the bereaved families.
They also thanked President Bola Tinubu for his support and commended the doctors and medical personnel at Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, for their professionalism and dedication.
