Governor Eno Commissions New Mother and Child Hospital in Ibiono Ibom
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has officially inaugurated a 100-bed Renewed Hope Mother and Child Specialist Hospital in Oko Ita, located in the Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of the state.
The facility, constructed under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aims to deliver quality maternal, neonatal, and paediatric healthcare services to residents in the area and surrounding communities.
Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda Targets Rural Health Access
Inaugurating the project on Wednesday, Governor Eno—represented by his Deputy, Senator Akon Eyakenyi—commended President Tinubu for providing both funding and technical support to realize the project.
“Our President understands that health is wealth. This hospital commissioning is a testament to his commitment to healthcare, particularly in underserved communities,” said the Governor.
He emphasized that the hospital complements ongoing state-level efforts to deliver affordable and accessible healthcare.

Several model primary healthcare centres have been launched across the state’s ten federal constituencies.
The government is planning the commissioning of a 350-bed Ibom International Multi-Specialist Hospital to promote medical tourism.

45 Similar Hospitals Built Nationwide
Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), noted that the new facility is one of 45 Mother and Child Centres her office has delivered across Nigeria.
She explained that the project supports SDG Goal 3, which focuses on good health and well-being, especially in the fight against maternal and infant mortality.
“Our 2024 SDGs Progress Report reveals sobering statistics. Maternal health indicators remain below target. This centre marks a significant step toward achieving SDG 3,” she stated.
Calls for Expanded Maternal Health Initiatives
Princess Orelope-Adefulire called on stakeholders to intensify health education and healthcare delivery, specifically:
Promoting routine antenatal and postnatal care.
Strengthening skilled birth attendance through the Midwives Service Scheme.
Preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS.
Expanding full immunisation coverage for children.
She praised Governor Eno for his people-focused governance and pledged further collaboration with the state to:
Construct residential quarters for medical personnel.
Upgrade the facility to meet general hospital standards.

Operating theatres
Recovery rooms
Delivery beds
Laboratories and scanning rooms
Emergency carts
Ultrasound scanners
Manual and electrical resuscitators
And other essential diagnostic and life-saving equipment
