Akpabio: Tinubu Has Niger Delta’s Full Backing
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has asserted that no political conspiracy will unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, declaring the Niger Delta region’s unwavering support for his leadership.
Akpabio made the remarks in a video obtained by SaharaReporters, emphasizing that a repeat of the political shift that ousted former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 would not be tolerated.
“Do not think that anybody can become President without consultation with the people of the Niger Delta region,” Akpabio said. “So the Niger Delta region has accepted President Bola Tinubu and found him fit to continue beyond 2027.”

Akpabio drew parallels between current political movements and the 2015 power transition, warning opposition forces against trying to replicate past strategies.
“Let other people who are conspiring they did it before to Goodluck Jonathan this time around, we are saying the entire South South region, the entire Niger Delta will speak with one voice,” he said.
“And we are telling the President, on your mandate we stand. No conspiracy formed against this government that has recognised Niger Delta shall prosper.”
Tinubu Lauded for Niger Delta Recognition and Development
Highlighting what he described as significant steps taken by the Tinubu administration, Akpabio praised the President for giving the region a stronger voice and increased attention.
“Forty-six years ago was the last time the Niger Delta had the opportunity to produce a Senate President. This is a government that has recognised the Niger Delta,” he noted.
He commended the recent establishment of two institutions a University of Environment and a University of Sciences in Ogoni Land, aimed at addressing long-standing environmental concerns in the oil-rich region.
“You are recognised when they take your resources and abandon your land. Today, the President has set up a University of Environment and the University of Sciences in Ogoni Land to take care of environmental issues.”

Akpabio’s comments come amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 elections, as opposition forces attempt to build a formidable coalition to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
