The highly anticipated Oyo Highways Stakeholder Engagement Forum, organized by Hon. Akin Alabi, Chairman of the House Committee on Works, took place successfully at Felicia Hall, Jogor Center, Ibadan.
The forum brought together government officials, contractors, community leaders, security agencies, and other stakeholders to discuss the condition of federal roads in Oyo State and explore solutions for infrastructure development. One of the major announcements at the event was the flag-off of the Iwo Road/Ojoo section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, scheduled for Saturday.
This marks a significant step in improving road connectivity within the state. The event had in attendance notable lawmakers, including Hon. Olamiju Alao-Akala (Ogbomoso North/Ogbomoso South/Oriire), Hon. Remi Oseni (Ido/Ibarapa East), and Hon. Lateef Olaide Mohammed (Irepo/Orelope/Olorunsogo). The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, was represented by Chief Lekan Alabi, the Maye Olubadan.
Delivering the keynote speech, Hon. Akin Alabi stressed the urgency of collaborative efforts in addressing road infrastructure challenges. A representative of the Minister of Works, the Zonal Director for the Southwest Ministry of Works, also presented an assessment of federal roads in the state. Contractors took the opportunity to discuss their projects, highlighting progress and challenges, particularly regarding funding.
This open discussion provided valuable insights into the obstacles hindering road development and the steps needed to improve infrastructure. The forum concluded with key resolutions, including stronger state-federal collaboration and increased stakeholder engagement. With the Iwo Road/Ojoo section’s flag-off imminent, residents of Oyo State can expect significant progress in road infrastructure development.
