Adesua Etomi-Wellington Reveals Near-Death Experience in the UK

Popular Nollywood actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington has opened up about a terrifying health ordeal that nearly claimed her life while she was in the United Kingdom earlier this year.

In a deeply emotional Instagram post shared on Sunday, the actress revealed that she underwent an unexpected surgery in June 2025, describing the experience as both horrific and transformative.

“I could have lost my life in June,” she wrote. “What I went through was horrific and ended with an unplanned surgery, and strangely, the surgery itself was the least dramatic part of it all.”

“If One Detail Had Been Different, I Wouldn’t Be Here Today”

Adesua explained that the incident occurred while she was in the UK for two speaking engagements, and that every circumstance on the day of the emergency seemed divinely orchestrated.

She credited divine intervention for her survival, saying that each event unfolded perfectly to save her life.

“If even one single detail had been different, I wouldn’t be here today. When I think about it, I shudder,” she wrote, expressing deep gratitude to God.

The Ordeal Strengthened Her Faith and Gratitude

Reflecting on the experience, the Sugar Rush star said the life-threatening scare renewed her appreciation for life and deepened her faith in God.

“There’s nothing anyone can tell me God is real,” she declared.

Adesua, who is married to singer and politician Banky W, encouraged her followers to cherish every moment and embody compassion and kindness in their daily lives.

“Let’s choose to be softer, kinder, gentler, forgiving, patient, loving, and peaceful. I’ll never take another day for granted, neither should you,” she urged.

Fans and Colleagues React

Following her revelation, fans and Nollywood colleagues flooded her comment section with messages of love, gratitude, and relief. Many praised her courage for sharing such a personal experience and thanked God for her recovery.

The actress’s story has since sparked widespread conversation about gratitude, faith, and the fragility of life within the Nigerian entertainment industry.
