Barely 24 hours after warning against violence in the forthcoming local government elections, Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has again sounded the alarm over a reported plot by opposition elements to launch coordinated attacks on local government secretariats across the state.
In a statement issued in Osogbo by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke alleged that the planned attacks also target leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and top government officials. He warned that anyone caught participating in such acts would face the full wrath of the law.
The governor accused opposition politicians, particularly from the All Progressives Congress (APC), of attempting to disrupt the elections through fabricated court rulings, fake news, and misleading narratives instead of engaging the electorate ahead of the February 22 polls.
He reaffirmed that a subsisting court judgment secured by the Action Peoples Party (APP) had nullified the controversial 2022 local government election, stating that the ruling remains legally binding. He clarified that the recent Court of Appeal judgment in Akure only addressed procedural filings by the PDP and did not overturn the earlier ruling that removed the APC-backed council officials.
