Veteran actor Abubakar Yakubu has officially assumed office as the new National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), following the completion of Emeka Rollas’ second and final tenure.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Yakubu took the oath of office on Thursday at an inauguration ceremony held at the AGN national secretariat in Abuja.

Yakubu succeeds Emeka Rollas after eight years

Yakubu replaces Rollas, whose leadership of the guild ended in December 2025 after two terms in office. The ceremony was attended by actors from across the country, alongside filmmakers and key stakeholders in Nigeria’s creative and entertainment industry.

In his inaugural address, Yakubu pledged to run an inclusive administration and strengthen collaboration within the guild to boost its contribution to the Nigerian motion picture industry.

He said his leadership would build on the foundation laid by the outgoing administration, drawing from his more than 10 years of experience as AGN’s General Secretary.

“I stand before you not in celebration of victory, but in humble acceptance of duty,” Yakubu said, describing his mandate as a responsibility to be faithfully discharged in service to the guild.
