50% Tariff Hike: NLC urges workers to boycott telecom services from Thursday

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has taken a firm stance against the recent 50% telecom tariff hike by directing a nationwide boycott of telecom services from February 13, 2025. The boycott, set to occur daily between 11 AM and 2 PM until the end of the month, targets major telecom providers—MTN, Airtel, and Glo.

This move comes in response to what the NLC describes as a breach of trust by telecom companies, which implemented the tariff increase despite an agreement to negotiate the matter through a 10-man committee. The labour union sees this as a sign of regulatory failure and corporate overreach, urging an immediate reversal of the tariff hike.

Given the suspension of NLC’s planned nationwide protest earlier in the month, this boycott could serve as a test of public support and a precursor to further actions. Do you think this strategy will pressure telecom companies and the government to reconsider the tariff increase?
