A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has pledged to support whoever emerges as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
Momodu said he would work with any flag bearer chosen by the ADC, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, or Aminu Tambuwal.
Commitment to party decision
The veteran journalist made the declaration during an interview on News Central’s Politics HQ programme aired on Thursday night.
According to him, his loyalty is to the ADC rather than to any individual aspirant.
“If today, ADC decided to pick Peter Obi, I will support him with everything I have,” Momodu said. “If it’s Tambuwal or Amaechi, I will support them. If it’s Atiku, it’s even sweeter because I have already been with him.”
Personal ties with aspirants
Momodu said he maintains close relationships with the leading figures mentioned, particularly Peter Obi.
He noted that Obi has visited his homes in Lagos, London and Accra, adding that the relationship between them is based on mutual respect.
“We know ourselves very well,” he said, stressing that personal preference would not override party loyalty.
Defence of Atiku
Momodu also defended Atiku against public criticism, describing him as a committed democrat.
He recalled that Atiku and Obi contested the 2019 presidential election together, arguing that their political history shows cooperation rather than rivalry.
“People forget that Atiku first gave Obi a national platform as his running mate,” Momodu said, adding that both politicians continue to interact.
He described Atiku as “a perfect gentleman and a consummate democrat” who does not hold grudges.
