A disturbing case of domestic violence has shocked residents of Jigawa State, as a 20-year-old man identified as Muhammad Salisu allegedly murdered his father, Salisu Abubakar, with a machete.
The attack reportedly occurred around 10:00 AM on Monday, May 5, 2025, at Bakin Kasuwa Quarters in Sara District, Gwaram Local Government Area. According to the Jigawa State Police Command, the suspect inflicted multiple machete wounds on his father’s neck, shoulder, and chest.
The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kudu but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police operatives arrested the suspect at the scene and recovered the weapon used in the attack. The State Commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi, has ordered the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for a thorough investigation.
Authorities are yet to disclose the motive behind the attack, but police say the suspect will be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
This incident adds to the growing concerns about domestic and youth-related violence in communities across Nigeria.
