A tragic hit-and-run accident on Monday afternoon claimed the life of a 12-year-old student, while her 15-year-old sister sustained severe injuries.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:35 p.m. at Ogundare Bus Stop along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
An unidentified driver, recklessly speeding in the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane, struck the two siblings as they were returning home from school. Both victims were critically injured and rushed to Orile Agege General Hospital. Unfortunately, the younger sister succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment.
The 15-year-old was later transferred to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) for further medical care. Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, confirmed that an investigation into the incident is already underway. Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, CP Jimoh urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations, maintain safe speeds, and drive responsibly to prevent similar tragedies.
He assured the public that authorities are committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding the accident and ensuring justice is served.
